Today we met with Libera, an anti-mafia organization that works against organized crime groups. They host summer camps, awareness days, and work towards educating people on the mafia. They are able to increase awareness for the victims of the mafia and show the weight of the crimes committed. I think of one of the coolest things was after talking to Libera, we saw items in grocery stores with the Libera logo- showing it was ethically produced.
Next, we went to the Catacombs. This was kind of a eerie place for me because I am scared of bodies, but thankfully the spaces that used to hold bodies were empty. These catacombs were gigantic and could fit about half a million bodies. One of the coolest parts were the frescoes and other artifacts left. It was also interesting to see the area designated for popes.
At night, our group went and visited the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. This was such a sweet memory for me. We threw our coins into the fountain and made a wish. This group of friends has been such a sweet part of my trip and I’m extremely grateful I get to make these memories with them!
